Trip Preperations

First things first. I am not a blogger. I rarely use Facebook or any other media site for that matter but I do like to document our trips for the relatives that we (gladly) left behind. Not just so they can keep up with us while we are on a trip but to rub their noses in it as well.

I typically use Everlater for my trip blogging however, I believe that the internet will not readily be available and this will be a requirement for regular updates using Everlater. Besides, Everlater was bought out by Mapquest and that jacked everything up. You can still see my Egypt blog on the Everlater site. In addition, an iPhone is not a joy to type on for extended periods of time. So, I had two choices. Either buy a new iPad or find an application that I can use across all of my Apple products (iMac, Macbook, iPhone). Michelle decided on the latter for me. The application is called MacJournal (sorry Windows users). You can download a free 15 day trial or opt to purchase it outright for $39 which is a lot less than the cost of a new iPad.

With our trip right around the corner, we have been busy getting all of our necessary travel items together. These items include but are not limited to clothes, voltage adapters for our necessary electronic components (cameras, laptops, battery chargers etc), necessary medications to use in a third world country (Pepto Bismal, Imodium, Malaria vaccination), new shoes, raincoats, hats etc, etc. I think the costs of our pre trip items cost more than the actual trip itself.

We also have to consider all of the things that have to be done while we are away like mowing the lawn, checking the mail, watering the fake plants (except for the new kick ass blue orchid that we just bought) and record all of the shows that we are going to miss (Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad just to name a few). But wait! We have our nephew, Travis here to do all of those things for us.

Michelle will ensure that the house is clean before we leave and Travis will ensure that it stays that way. So Travis, if you are reading this blog, pay heed to what is written our auntie will get medieval on your ass and unleash hell upon our return. I will be safe from the relentless bombardment of colorful metaphors as I will be the last one she wants to see after spending the past twenty days with me without separation. Good luck, Obi Wan won’t be there to bail you out this time.

Kansas and Oklahoma Road Trip

One thing is for certain is that traffic does not exist in Kansas or Oklahoma.  Not even during the Labor Day Weekend. Michelle and I took Friday off so we could do a short road trip (750 miles one way is considered short for us) through Kansas and to Tulsa, OK. Michelle plotted a few interesting things to see in both states. Kansas:  Monument Rock (yes, a rock), Strataca Salt Mine and the Keeper of the Plains in Wichita. Oklahoma:  A waterfall and the Philbrook Museum of Art. We got off of the interstate for Monument Rock and the road immediately turned into a dirt road.  Drive twenty miles, make a left.  Drive six more miles, make a right.  Drive twelve more miles, make a right.  This went on for a bit but we eventually got there.  We pulled in the parking area and nobody else was present.  Sign of good things to come. The sun wasn't out and but we had some cool clouds for the most part. I will have to say that Monument Rock was really cool.  In the middle of nowher

Jordan Day 1

It's been almost three years since we had payed for our trip to Jordan and Israel.  THREE FUCKING YEARS! We finally went and had a great time.   The trip lasted almost a month and we started our adventure in Amman, Jordan.  We arrived a day early so we could acclimate to the time change (nine hour difference).   We had purchased some Briggs and Riley high end luggage in hopes to carry them on the plane due to all of the recent horror stories of lost and or delayed baggage.  No such luck!  We were forced to check our bags at the gate in Denver.  If we had known our bags would have to be checked, we would have brought a lot more clothes and a much bigger suitcase.  We only brought six days of clothes (with an extra abundance of underwear and socks).   The planes were on time and we arrived in Amman a bit tired and eager to get going.   Our first hotel was the House Boutique Hotel which was really comfortable.  The hotel had a roof top pool and most importantly, a roof top bar. A lit

Thank You For The Smoke (California)! Wyoming Sucked

Another attempt at Astrophotography gone up in smoke.   Thank you California for the ruining our Wyoming weekend.  Don't worry, we will be visiting soon and will definitely leave a mark on your ass. The smoke was so bad in Wyoming.  Thick, grey and disgusting. Of course, this didn't stop people from going to one of our favorite spots in Wyoming.  Medicine Bow National Forest.   We dressed for 60 degree weather.  We didn't expect 35 degree weather with fog and blustery wind.  Glad we packed additional clothes (hats, gloves, scarfs etc). I am ahead of myself.  The day excursion to Medicine Bow was the second day.   We spent the first day at the Wyoming Territorial Prison to visit relatives.  Ha...the prison is now a park.  The prison's most famous prisoner was Butch Cassidy.  The only prison that Butch was incarcerated in.  Pretty good for career criminal. We spent most of the day at the prison.  Historical Prisons will the only ones that I will visit.  My mother raised m
