El Salvador

We woke up at 5am anticipating our first full day in Central America. We had a rather nice buffet breakfast consisting of fresh local fruit, eggs, pancakes, cheese, yogurt, juice and coffee.
After breakfast, we met the rest of our group. A lot of the members of the group are seasoned OAT travelers and are celebrating their tenth trip or more with OAT. We are on our second trip. We were told that when we book our third trip with OAT we will be elite members of the “inter circle” of OAT.
After our meet and greet, we were give ten minutes to grab our carry on bags and get on the bus for our panorama tour of El Salvador. We stopped at a few churches and a military base as well as obtained some insight to the civil war of late ‘70s.

One of the churches, the Iglesia El Rosario was awesome to say the least. Very unique art work depicting the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The artwork was made our of cement and rebar. Unfortunately, it was a little too dark to really capture of artwork.

Our next stop was a military base in San Salvador. It was more like a museum than an actual base but there were soldiers stationed there.
The base has the largest outdoor relief map in Central America. I took a couple pictures of the map showing the El Salvador airport and the city of El Salvador. I just wish it was light out when we arrived the El Salvador airport as the airport was really small and extremely active with people.

Kansas and Oklahoma Road Trip

One thing is for certain is that traffic does not exist in Kansas or Oklahoma.  Not even during the Labor Day Weekend. Michelle and I took Friday off so we could do a short road trip (750 miles one way is considered short for us) through Kansas and to Tulsa, OK. Michelle plotted a few interesting things to see in both states. Kansas:  Monument Rock (yes, a rock), Strataca Salt Mine and the Keeper of the Plains in Wichita. Oklahoma:  A waterfall and the Philbrook Museum of Art. We got off of the interstate for Monument Rock and the road immediately turned into a dirt road.  Drive twenty miles, make a left.  Drive six more miles, make a right.  Drive twelve more miles, make a right.  This went on for a bit but we eventually got there.  We pulled in the parking area and nobody else was present.  Sign of good things to come. The sun wasn't out and but we had some cool clouds for the most part. I will have to say that Monument Rock was really cool.  In the middle of nowher

Jordan Day 1

It's been almost three years since we had payed for our trip to Jordan and Israel.  THREE FUCKING YEARS! We finally went and had a great time.   The trip lasted almost a month and we started our adventure in Amman, Jordan.  We arrived a day early so we could acclimate to the time change (nine hour difference).   We had purchased some Briggs and Riley high end luggage in hopes to carry them on the plane due to all of the recent horror stories of lost and or delayed baggage.  No such luck!  We were forced to check our bags at the gate in Denver.  If we had known our bags would have to be checked, we would have brought a lot more clothes and a much bigger suitcase.  We only brought six days of clothes (with an extra abundance of underwear and socks).   The planes were on time and we arrived in Amman a bit tired and eager to get going.   Our first hotel was the House Boutique Hotel which was really comfortable.  The hotel had a roof top pool and most importantly, a roof top bar. A lit

Thank You For The Smoke (California)! Wyoming Sucked

Another attempt at Astrophotography gone up in smoke.   Thank you California for the ruining our Wyoming weekend.  Don't worry, we will be visiting soon and will definitely leave a mark on your ass. The smoke was so bad in Wyoming.  Thick, grey and disgusting. Of course, this didn't stop people from going to one of our favorite spots in Wyoming.  Medicine Bow National Forest.   We dressed for 60 degree weather.  We didn't expect 35 degree weather with fog and blustery wind.  Glad we packed additional clothes (hats, gloves, scarfs etc). I am ahead of myself.  The day excursion to Medicine Bow was the second day.   We spent the first day at the Wyoming Territorial Prison to visit relatives.  Ha...the prison is now a park.  The prison's most famous prisoner was Butch Cassidy.  The only prison that Butch was incarcerated in.  Pretty good for career criminal. We spent most of the day at the prison.  Historical Prisons will the only ones that I will visit.  My mother raised m
