Mary Murphy Mine - Colorado

One thing about Colorado...you can easily find a place to go off roading.  If you see a dirt road without a fence or no trespassing sign, you can basically drive on it.  Try that in California without getting shot.  Since pot is legal here, I guess nobody gives a rat's ass anymore.

Had a hankering for a off road experience so we grabbed our trusty 4x4 off roading book and found a trail that leads up to an abandoned mine called Mary Murphy Mine.  And they call it a mine...

The decay is in good shape.  Good shape meaning that it is still there, the place isn't trashed and people pretty much just go there to check it out and leave it as they found it.  The only trash that we found were car parts off of vehicles that tried to make it up a road that is intended for off road 4x4s.  Dumbass.

Here is a shot of the trail.  The picture does not do it justice.  The Rubicon had issues getting up this hill.  All four tires were spinning.  Had to back down and take the left side of the road to make it up.  Best part was there were only two other vehicles.

Farther up the road, we reached the end of the road and ended up at Pomeroy Lake.  The lake is at an elevation of 12,416' making it one of the highest natural lakes in the state of Colorado.  It is things like this that me want to never leave the state.  Fuck California.  All this stuff is in our backyard.  Yes, our backyard is that big!  It takes three hours to go through it in any direction.  So there.

Drywall Has Started!!

We got an email from Courtney (our beloved sales lady @ Richmond/American Homes) stating that the drywall material was dropped off at the new house yesterday and they will start drywalling immediately. We went by the house today to take a look. We opened the front door and immediately saw four of the laborers sitting against the wall enjoying lunch (and a bit of music). I am not sure who was more surprised to see who! I should have snapped a picture of them sitting there with jaws agape. Definitely a Kodak moment. The upstairs is almost completely drywalled since the blew in the attic insulation earlier in the week and the ground floor is about half way done. I guess that they will start the basement soon. Did I mention that we opted for the finished basement? I probably did but I like repeating it since it will be cool to have a finished basement. Michelle stated that it will be a cool place to build a fort. Oh wait, I think she said that about the master bedroom walk in clo...

Jordan Day 1

It's been almost three years since we had payed for our trip to Jordan and Israel.  THREE FUCKING YEARS! We finally went and had a great time.   The trip lasted almost a month and we started our adventure in Amman, Jordan.  We arrived a day early so we could acclimate to the time change (nine hour difference).   We had purchased some Briggs and Riley high end luggage in hopes to carry them on the plane due to all of the recent horror stories of lost and or delayed baggage.  No such luck!  We were forced to check our bags at the gate in Denver.  If we had known our bags would have to be checked, we would have brought a lot more clothes and a much bigger suitcase.  We only brought six days of clothes (with an extra abundance of underwear and socks).   The planes were on time and we arrived in Amman a bit tired and eager to get going.   Our first hotel was the House Boutique Hotel which was really comfortable.  The hotel had a ro...

Trip To IKEA

We have been contemplating going to IKEA all last week and decided to make today “IKEA Day”. We have been looking at for a wall unit/entertainment center for the living room. The wall that we are planning on using has 111” of space available. We figured that the modular units that IKEA sells would be a good place to start. Here is a picture of what we currently have: As you can see, the wall currently looks like shit. That is about to change. So, as you know, we went to IKEA today and we found three units that we both liked. Scratch that, we actually found two that we liked and one that we kinda of sorta liked but not enough to post a picture here on my blog. Do you think you can tell which unit we bought? To help you make your choice, remember that our hardwood floors are dark and the walls are a beige color. This unit is totally modular so you can make it fit your lifestyle. We like the way that it is suspended off of the floor.     We like this one also. The glas...
