New Vehicle (Yeah, I know...Leave Me Alone)

With the famous words of Ned Stark, “Winter is coming” in my brain, we (yes, we) decided to replace my Scion Tc. After countless hours on websites we decided on a RAV4 All Wheel Drive. The reasons for picking a RAV4 is pretty obvious to us but let me spell it out for you.

Every car that I have ever purchased has been a Toyota or Scion (which is basically a Toyota) except for a piece of shit Jeep Patriot which was returned to purchase the Scion Tc.

Well, I will have to admit that “we” bought a Jeep Wrangler but since Michelle’s name is first name on the loan paperwork, I technically didn’t buy it. I only co-signed on the loan in case she kicks it (heaven forbid) and then the car would go to me. Dammit, since I am the bill payer in the house and the money for the payment comes out of our joint account, one could say that I did buy it. That would be something for the courts to decide. Michelle’s name appears first on the registration as well as the insurance card but since I pay for those as well….I am done. WE bought the Jeep so there goes my perfect record on Toyotas.

Okay, back to the reason why:

Five Years or 60,000 miles FULL Warranty including windshield repair or replacement. Bumper to bumper…EVERYTHING

Six Years or 60,000 miles work of oil changes and roadside service

The warranty and oil changes did not change the negotiated price as it usually does when you are in finance. So, that makes me think that either my negotiating skills suck or they really appreciate me as a loyal Toyota owner. I am leaning towards the latter and you should too.

We took the RAV out for a test drive in Aspen Ridge (outside of Fairplay and Buena Vista so you can actually google it) and did a little off roading. I only scrapped once. The oil pan and differential are above the frame so I only scrapped the tailpipe. The clearance is 6.8 inches (compared to Michelle’s Wrangler of 8.3 inches) so it did pretty good. I probably won’t do any trails harder than Aspen Ridge as the car is not made for that. That is what the Wrangler is for. The Wrangler kicks ass.

Smooth ride, All Wheel Drive for winter driving and peace of mind knowing I am covered for any warranty issues for the next six years made it a wise choice.

Here are a few pics taken on the (off) road. I guess that I will be washing it tomorrow.

Kansas and Oklahoma Road Trip

One thing is for certain is that traffic does not exist in Kansas or Oklahoma.  Not even during the Labor Day Weekend. Michelle and I took Friday off so we could do a short road trip (750 miles one way is considered short for us) through Kansas and to Tulsa, OK. Michelle plotted a few interesting things to see in both states. Kansas:  Monument Rock (yes, a rock), Strataca Salt Mine and the Keeper of the Plains in Wichita. Oklahoma:  A waterfall and the Philbrook Museum of Art. We got off of the interstate for Monument Rock and the road immediately turned into a dirt road.  Drive twenty miles, make a left.  Drive six more miles, make a right.  Drive twelve more miles, make a right.  This went on for a bit but we eventually got there.  We pulled in the parking area and nobody else was present.  Sign of good things to come. The sun wasn't out and but we had some cool clouds for the most part. I will have to say that Monument Rock was really cool.  In the middle of nowher

Jordan Day 1

It's been almost three years since we had payed for our trip to Jordan and Israel.  THREE FUCKING YEARS! We finally went and had a great time.   The trip lasted almost a month and we started our adventure in Amman, Jordan.  We arrived a day early so we could acclimate to the time change (nine hour difference).   We had purchased some Briggs and Riley high end luggage in hopes to carry them on the plane due to all of the recent horror stories of lost and or delayed baggage.  No such luck!  We were forced to check our bags at the gate in Denver.  If we had known our bags would have to be checked, we would have brought a lot more clothes and a much bigger suitcase.  We only brought six days of clothes (with an extra abundance of underwear and socks).   The planes were on time and we arrived in Amman a bit tired and eager to get going.   Our first hotel was the House Boutique Hotel which was really comfortable.  The hotel had a roof top pool and most importantly, a roof top bar. A lit

Thank You For The Smoke (California)! Wyoming Sucked

Another attempt at Astrophotography gone up in smoke.   Thank you California for the ruining our Wyoming weekend.  Don't worry, we will be visiting soon and will definitely leave a mark on your ass. The smoke was so bad in Wyoming.  Thick, grey and disgusting. Of course, this didn't stop people from going to one of our favorite spots in Wyoming.  Medicine Bow National Forest.   We dressed for 60 degree weather.  We didn't expect 35 degree weather with fog and blustery wind.  Glad we packed additional clothes (hats, gloves, scarfs etc). I am ahead of myself.  The day excursion to Medicine Bow was the second day.   We spent the first day at the Wyoming Territorial Prison to visit relatives.  Ha...the prison is now a park.  The prison's most famous prisoner was Butch Cassidy.  The only prison that Butch was incarcerated in.  Pretty good for career criminal. We spent most of the day at the prison.  Historical Prisons will the only ones that I will visit.  My mother raised m
