Aspen Ridge, Colorado

As in the past, we woke up Saturday morning and decided to take a road trip to Aspen Ridge in Buena Vista, CO. Aspen Ridge is, as the name implies, a mountain ridge consisting of a bunch of aspen trees.

Our intention was to photograph the fall colors before it got too late in the season. Guess what? We were too late (again).

The trip to “the ridge” took about two and a half hours. www.traildamage.com stated that Aspen Ridge was just outside of Fairplay, CO (about 90 minutes away). They lied (as they usually do). Don’t get me wrong, the site has great information but typically the site is a little vague on how to get there, where to turn and what to expect. That being said, the site is the IMDB of off roading.

On the way to Aspen Ridge, we rarely saw trees with any fall colors remaining and were hopeful that we would get to see some when we reached our destination.

We took state highway 285 south and exited on Chaffee County Road 307 and followed the lame instructions to Aspen Ridge. The road was exactly as described. A little rocky in spots, mud (cool) and a lot of spots to pull off and enjoy the view.

Like stated above, the trees were quite bare and we finally got to see some colors when we reached the top of the ridge.

Here are some of the pictures we took.

Jordan Day 1

It's been almost three years since we had payed for our trip to Jordan and Israel.  THREE FUCKING YEARS! We finally went and had a great time.   The trip lasted almost a month and we started our adventure in Amman, Jordan.  We arrived a day early so we could acclimate to the time change (nine hour difference).   We had purchased some Briggs and Riley high end luggage in hopes to carry them on the plane due to all of the recent horror stories of lost and or delayed baggage.  No such luck!  We were forced to check our bags at the gate in Denver.  If we had known our bags would have to be checked, we would have brought a lot more clothes and a much bigger suitcase.  We only brought six days of clothes (with an extra abundance of underwear and socks).   The planes were on time and we arrived in Amman a bit tired and eager to get going.   Our first hotel was the House Boutique Hotel which was really comfortable.  The hotel had a ro...

Drywall Has Started!!

We got an email from Courtney (our beloved sales lady @ Richmond/American Homes) stating that the drywall material was dropped off at the new house yesterday and they will start drywalling immediately. We went by the house today to take a look. We opened the front door and immediately saw four of the laborers sitting against the wall enjoying lunch (and a bit of music). I am not sure who was more surprised to see who! I should have snapped a picture of them sitting there with jaws agape. Definitely a Kodak moment. The upstairs is almost completely drywalled since the blew in the attic insulation earlier in the week and the ground floor is about half way done. I guess that they will start the basement soon. Did I mention that we opted for the finished basement? I probably did but I like repeating it since it will be cool to have a finished basement. Michelle stated that it will be a cool place to build a fort. Oh wait, I think she said that about the master bedroom walk in clo...

Rocky Mountain Arsenal and National Wildlife Refuge - Part Deux

Yes, I bought a new camera.  The new and improved Fuji XT-4.  The XT-4 is FAR superior than it's predecessor (XT-3) in all aspects.   You can blame Michelle for converting me to Fuji. Now, I must say, I didn't' blatantly spend money on this camera without having a plan. I sold my Nikon Z6 and associated lenses which more than paid for the Fuji.  I can honestly say that I feel good about buying the new camera.  The only regret that I have is that I didn't ask for more money on the Fuji "kit lenses" that Michelle and I had (27mm).  Fuji has NO stock on any of their lenses and I could have made a killing on the lens.  They both sold within minutes of posting them on eBay.  Dammit! So, you may be asking yourself what the fuck that this has to do with the RMANWR?  A test drive on the new camera.  Michelle was kind enough to let me "borrow" her Fuji 100-400mm lens.  Possession is 9/10 of the law.  It is now my possession. ...
